Nervous system in animals is used to coordinate the body when stimulated using the receptors (stimulus) :s

A good example of nervous system action is burning yourself:

  1. You touch a hot pan.
  2. Your hand receives the heat and the stimulus (skin) is switched to send an electric signal
  3. The electrical signal is sent to the spinal cord and the brain
  4. As this is a reflex type of reaction, spinal cord reacts quickly by sending a signal to the muscles, to move away the hand
  5. The hand moves away
  6. Brain is slower than direct (spinal cord) control. Therefore, you consciously feel the heat on your hand and then would run to the sink for cold water.
