Hormones

Hormones are chemical messengers that travel around the body in the blood stream. They are similar to Nerves but are for longer term effects and have a variable range of functions.

Thyroxine

Controls the metabolic rate (Rate of respiration etc.)

HGH

Controls the growth.

Insulin

Insulin is used to control the blood's sugar levels. Insulin may not be released in case that the person is diabetic.

Testosterone

A sexual hormone that controls the body's growth, sexual organ developement and puberty as well as other sexual factors.

Oestrogen

This hormone controls when the ovum egg should be released.

Progesterone

Controls the uterus's lining.

Adrenaline

Prepares body for 'fight or flight'. Simply, increases heart speed, blood pressure and rate of respiration in the body.
